[Feature]: Keep AOD always active?

Problem Statement

I do not know if this is possible, but decided to throw it in anyways

Many phones have an AOD feature that turns off after a few seconds to conserve battery, though can be activated over and over if you pick the phone up or touch the screen. And no way to make it otherwise.

My phone has this problem, and unfortunately an ADB command fix that did work in android 15 doesn't work anymore on android 16. I used to rely on this to check for important notifications by assigning the essentials edge lighting feature to the notifs I care about, but sadly the AOD turns off now :(

Any way to make this possible? Spoofing touches or motion maybe?

I've tried things like macrodroid and tasker but can't seem to make it work (maybe im stupid, because the touches only work when the screen is on the lockscreen/unlocked, never on the AOD)

This can probably be merged with #192 , seem similar. Although it's for pixels.

Hi! There's a little issue with this. The one you are having probably isn't the Always on Display... It must be the Ambient display which was a thing before that..

Afaik, to keep it awake, you need to constantly ping the device as picked up or awake which may keep it on but the worst part is that this is going to kill the battery life as Android never gonna trigger doze for efficiency and basically it's gonna stay like screen on.

And I assume your device doesn't have an OLED panel which also may answer no AOD. This will be a bigger issue for your battery...

So that is the issue I'm seeing.. hope you understand 😇

My phone does have an OLED LTPS display but the manufacturers decided that it shouldn't get a "all day" setting for it. On android 15 I could use an adb command to change the settings (as it isn't available in the settings app itself) to change the mode to all day, which got patched in android 16 (I do not know why they would patch it).

The device is a Realme P1, I know it is a budget device but my experience with the all day aod mode turned on for 4-5 months on android 15 was around ~1-2% of extra battery loss over a period of 3 hours. I don't get why Realme wouldn't give the option. My OnePlus Nord CE 5 also doesn't have an option :/

Oh wow.... debugging this remotely might not be the easiest but let's see... Can you share what the commands you tried previously and so on? And can you do some research on this as anyone else had a forum discussion or so I can get an idea what's going on here?

Because even if I make an overlay, we need a way to keep the display on without the device being awake and also in doze mode with burn-in protection active for an AOD to keep on.

i tried the command adb shell settings put secure Setting_UserEnergySaving 0 (the setting's name is probably different for different brands of phones, but for all coloros phones it's the same, tested it also on my Oneplus), which turned off the default unchangeable energy saving mode for the aod, which doesn't work anymore.

I've seen people do this with their aods where the set up a Tasker thing and make it spoof a touch on the screen every 5 seconds or so, so that the AOD stays active. I tried doing the same but I don't really know how to use tasker ;-;

The device does doze as I checked through adb commands, and burn in protection stays active as the AOD clock thing moves every minute or so. But unfortunately the AOD display doesn't stay active anymore as they moved these settings to the build file which needs root to change (I ran a getprop command and saw that it's literally telling the phone that do NOT allow this phone to have an all day AOD setting, which didn't exist in android 15. Scummy move)

This might not be possible on every phone but might also be possible on some phones, might be a big thing if you can get it working.
